On Cook Mountain, an anti-MTR article by Dea
The most recent issue of the Earth First! Journal has a really good article about Mountaintop Removal written by my friend Dea. Turns out she’s posted it online as well. From the article: Madison Cook’s miniature hands were covered in the sooty remains of a lump of bituminous coal. She had been collecting treasures all [...]

Oh god, I started social networking.
I quit myspace years ago when Fox bought it, and haven’t really looked back. Today I joined Goodreads. Anyhow, you can find me on there as “Margaret Killjoy.” Anyhow, it’s kinda neat, so hopefully I’ll keep up with it.

Surprise! I have a second book out!
Being The Exploration of One Fine Summer I’m proud to release my first photo book, 52 pages that document my explorations with mountaintop removal, roadkill, and Cascadian forest defense. I’ll make a free PDF available as quickly as possible, since of course this book is Creative Commons. But you can buy it online for $7 [...]

Book release tomorrow in Baltimore
I’m trying to pretend like I’m not nervous about my book release tomorrow in baltimore, 3pm at the baltimore book festival in the radical book pavilion. It’s been a pretty crazy couple of days. Last night, I was witnessing one of the more bizarre police states I’ve seen in my life (I suppose I’m something [...]

Police State in Pittsburgh
Last night was… was something. Nobody rioted but the police, but they had a field day, with thousands of officers firing all sorts of weapons and setting up concentric rings of riot police, ordering dispersal but, by and by, not allowing it. All on a college campus, where thousands of students live… there was no [...]

This guy is awesome
More about all the protests today later. I didn’t shoot this photo, it’s from timesonline.co.uk. All I’m saying is this guy is awesome. I didn’t seem him do this, but I was checking out his sweet happy mutton chops (the facial hair), and plus, white-haired radicals are awesome. He was wearing a PM Pres shirt. [...]

Tuesday in Pittsburgh, week of the g20
Alright, I’m trying out this Flickr thing again, basically out of happiness that it automatically resizes things. Anyhow, here’s some of what I shot yesterday. Nothing particularly exciting, just a general sense of obnoxious levels of police harassment, mostly of folks trying to serve food. And a deer in a graveyard. At my Flickr page

A Song For Carefully Aiming
Leslie Fish is an anarchist folk singer who writes songs about Star Trek and such, and is considered one of the innovators of filk. Here, in this song, she explains why a well-trained gunner is more effective than one using the “spray and pray” method.

Ariel Attack’s Court Fashion, by the Boulevardier
Denver anarchist Ariel Attack apparently went to court yesterday. And while I haven’t yet seen an update on her charges, etc., we do have an update on her lovely fashion choices for court over on anarchist fashion blog the Boulevardier. Update: Ariel has been charged with Felony Criminal Mischief

Carlsbad Caverns, New Mexico
I’m becoming obsessed. It might be with caves, it might be with photography. Actually, it might be with bats. We stopped at Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. It holds the largest cave room in the western hemisphere, and it’s pretty spectacular. Well, it kinda dwarfs words like “spectacular.” It kinda dwarfs most anything, really. And [...]
